Jang Geun Suk and Moon Geun Young delighted to be working together on “Mary StayedOut All Night”
by VITALSIGN dated November 3, 2010

The main cast of “Mary Stayed Out All Night” got together on November 3rd at the press conference before the drama’s premiere next Monday.

Moon Geun Young, when asked about her thoughts on her fellow castmate, stated, “I decided to join the drama because I liked the script and the character’s charm, but my choice was also largely dependent on Jang Geun Suk being the other leading role.”

She continued, “I’ve always wanted to work with Jang Geun Suk after seeing his dramas and films. I decided that acting with him would be sweet and said okay to the cast offer.”

Jang Geun Suk stated, “Moon Geun Young was cast right after me. I first heard of the news while at a celebratory dinner with the production company. I screamed hooray when I heard the news. I was always the maknae and played roles that were dependent on other characters. I was determined to make this drama something that Moon Geun Young and I could both make together. I was glad that we fit well together after working with her for the first filming.”

Regarding actually working together, Moon Geun Young revealed, “We’re both the same age so everything is very comfortable. He’s caring and fun.”

Jang Geun Suk returned the compliments by stating, “Her charm is her honest personality. I’m able to talk with her freely. A lot of actresses have a difficult time dealing with actors, but there’s none of that with us. We text each other after work and monitor the other’s acting.”

“Mary Stayed Out All Night” will broadcast on November 8th, replacing “Sungkyunkwan Scandal“, which ended last night, and the show also stars Kim Jae Wook and Kim Hyo Jin, among others.

[Chae Ki-won/10Asia]

A couple walks along a tranquil residential area that sunrays are breaking into. The guy plays a guitar and the girl takes photographs. Then shortly after, this couple who could not possibly look any happier, run down a street while each holds the hands of a different man and woman. The four meet in the middle of the street and wave to each other, smiling. This one-minute 45-second teaser trailer of upcoming KBS TV series "Marry me, Mary," revealed at its press conference on Wednesday, showed the relationships between the main characters and the atmosphere they will be surrounded by in the drama.

"Marry me, Mary,' based on a comic of the same name by writer Won Soo-yeon, is a romantic comedy which shows how main female character Mary (Moon Geun-young), not at all ready to get married, becomes concerned about the realistic issues and love and marriage, in between two men. Mary, who has suddenly become a married woman because her father forced her into a contractual marriage with the young and wealthy Jungin (Kim Jae-wook), makes things worse by ending up in two marriages by taking a fake marriage photo with indie band vocalist Mugyul (Jang Keun-suk). And she must decide on one after being married to both for 100 days. With the appearance of Seojun (Kim Hyo-jin), Mugyul's former girlfriend and also actress who has signed with Jungin, the four slowly start to get to know each other and love and envy.

The video clips revealed on the day of the press conference showed that the producers had put a lot of thought into materializing the sentimentality felt in romantic comic books onto the screen. The scenes shot on the streets of Hongik University, where Mugyul is based, contained the bright autumn sunlight captured by the camera to create delicate and soft images. The fact that joint producers Hong Suk-goo and Kim Young-kyun are both taking their first tries at mini-series has also seemed to have played a role in creating a 'young' picture.

Storywise, the drama's greatest chance at doing well lays in how well it makes its viewers understand 'double marriage' which could be an unfamiliar matter to many. And unlike the original work which has ben published serially for over two years, the time limitation the show will have as a 16-part drama must be taken into consideration. That is why the producers said they loosely adopted the set-up from the original series and re-created the comic into a realistic drama. Writer In Eun-ah, in charge of the show's script, explained that the characters and situations they are put in will be different and that she "attempted to create a fun and easy-to-watch story about marriage and families." Hong Suk-koo, who asked the actors not to read the original comic since the story will be different, said "The characters are from the romantic comedy genre but about a realistic story."

The bright imagery, the casting of Jang Keun-suk and Moon Geun-young, and a romantic comedy by Won Soo-yeon. The three factors may remind one of TV series "Full House" which was popular throughout Asia. And "Marry me, Mary," being jointly produced with Japan's ACC, has already been pre-sold to Taiwan and China at record high prices. KBS' drama department director Lee Eung-jin did not fail to hide the quaint excitement he felt over the drama. "The top actors of the second Hallyu generation are stepping into the world. This will be an opportunity to show Korea's cultural power." But like Jang said, that he is "trying to make a good drama ahead of it being a Hallyu content," it will be difficult to ascertain the success of a drama whose degree of completion has not been vouched. Director Hong Suk-koo who said, "I see myself when I was in my 20s overlap with the characters and actors in their 20s." And writer In Eun-ah she will write the story "honestly" and "work hard at it." Will the two be able to tell a 'real' story about the love and marriage of people in their 20s? "Marry me, Mary" premieres at 9:55 p.m. on November 8.

Moon Geun Young Interviewed

Date : [2010-11-08]
Source : KBSGlobal

Actress Moon Geun Young will have two husbands in the new KBS drama “Marry Me, Mary! by playing the female protagonist named Wi Mary and engaging in a double marriage life.

Moon Geun Young said, "I appeared in this drama due to the attractive script, characters, and my counterpart Jang Geun Seok."

Moon completely shook off her previously cold character Eun Jo, whom she had played in her previous drama “Cinderella’s Step Sister,” and came back to a lovely and bright character named “Mary.” Thanks to her lovely appearance in the drama, the drama has gained more anticipation from people. She expressed her feelings by saying, “The best thing is that I can talk to other cast members who are around the same age as me and communicate freely with them.”

Following are questions and answers with Moon Geun Young, which were made at the production presentation held on November 3.

Q. What is the attractiveness of Mary?

Moon Geun Young: Her optimistic personality. I am a kind of person who is trying to think optimistically, but I think that Mary seems to be born with an optimistic personality.

Q. It is your first time to work with the actor Jang Geun Seok. How is the harmony with him?

Moon Geun Young: When we first met, we talked a lot. Maybe because we are the same age and we have experienced similar situations, we could talk a lot about many things together. We could film comfortably from the first shoot, and we are filming this drama in a friendly and comfortable atmosphere thanks to his thoughtful personality. I had decided to appear in this drama because I really liked the character and the script, but actually the fact that Jang Geun Seok would be my counterpart played an important part of my decision. I have always wanted to act together with him, and I thought that it would be more interesting if I filmed this sweet and exciting drama with him.

Q. Is it much easier for you to play a bright character compared to your previous dramas?

Moon Geun Young: Any character could be similar to me or completely different from me. It could be unfamiliar because the character itself is not me, but on the other hand, it could be familiar because I play the character. With this reason, I do not know which one is more difficult or easy. The characters that I played in my recent works [the drama “Cinderella’s Step Sister” and theater work “Closer”] were all gloomy characters who keep their emotions deep inside, but Mary is comparably able to express her feelings freely, so it is different. I used to hide my feelings while acting when I played Eun Jo and Alice, so the actress Moon Geun Young became a restrained actor. When I looked at the character Mary, I had the thought, “I want to be free from confined emotions. I want to express my feelings.” Actually, I had played many bright characters with the image of “the nation’s little sister,” and I could play Eun Jo when I wanted to show my own acting. I think that I could play characters that I exactly wanted to play at that moment.

Q. This is your fourth work this year. Why are you appearing in so many works?

Moon Geun Young: I think that I particularly have more desire about acting this year. I used to give up appearing in a work for the tiniest little reason, but these days, I cannot give up even for a significant reason. I think that I have decided to appear in many works consecutively with the thought, “If I want to appear in it, then why not?” Acting itself is really enjoyable these days.

Q. Can you have a double marriage life like in the drama?

Moon Geun Young: If the husbands are so charming like those in the drama, I might not be able to refuse one of those.

Q. What do you think about the actor Kim Jae Wook?

Moon Geun Young: Actually, I had had a preconception about the handsome man before he came to see my theater work “Closer” on purpose after knowing that I might act together with him in the drama. When I first met him at that time, my preconception disappeared. He is a person who arouses curiosity about him. He thinks a lot about acting and he also has a desire to act.

Q. Fans of the original work might anticipate a lot from the drama. How different is it with the original?

Moon Geun Young: The original and the drama might be very different. We took the important settings from the original, but the relationships among characters are very different. I also read the original, but I think that I do not need to refer to the original.

She added, “From the moment that I read the script and the moment that the cast members had been decided, I felt excited and happy. I will keep this feeling and I will do my best to film this drama with pleasant feelings until the end, and to transfer this pleasant and cheerful atmosphere to the viewers.”
